FAQ

WHAT APPRENTICESHIPS DOES HONOLD OFFER?

If you’re looking for focused career development in the future-oriented transport and logistics sector, then you’re in the right place: Honold offers apprenticeships for Transport and Logistics Service Clerks, Office Management Clerks, Warehouse Logistics Specialists and Warehouse Clerks – with excellent career prospects and individual training! Depending on our needs, in our IT Department you can train to become an IT Specialist (m/f/x) for Application Development and System Integration; in our Honold Truck Workshop, you can train to become a Vehicle Mechatronics Specialist for Commercial Vehicles (m/f/x).

WHAT BENEFITS WILL THE TRAINING GIVE ME?

At Honold, our apprentices start straightaway at their own workplace. Taking part, making progress, savouring successes, learning from mistakes. You’ll be learning surrounded by qualified specialists – many of whom are Certified Trainers. The advantage: this ensures job-related and methodological support in all departments. What’s more, active IHK examiners in the team mean you’ll get the perfect preparation for your exams. We’ll cover any associated costs for books and trade fairs, etc.

In the Honold apprentice lessons, specialists from all our departments provide in-depth insights into our daily business, as well as teaching you about how things fit into the wider context. The Mentoring and Buddy Program will help integrate you into our company family from the moment you join us.

If your school grades are excellent, we can offer you a reduced training period – so you have the chance to start your career even sooner.

HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK?

STEP 1: Please send us your application with a covering letter, your CV and your two most recent school reports by March 31 at the latest, before the apprenticeship starts. You’ll find the application form after the job description.

STEP 2: We’ll send you confirmation via e-mail when we receive your application.

STEP 3: We’ll look at every application, get an impression and check that all the prerequisites are met.

STEP 4  is only for the commercial roles: we ask all the candidates we believe are essentially suitable to take a cognitive performance test.

In STEP 5 we invite a shortlist of candidates to an interview and a trial workday. Here you can learn what your future job involves and get to know the company.

STEP 6 is where we make a decision: to offer you a training place or to turn you down.

STEP 7 is your answer to our offer. Are you in? Great – we look forward to seeing you!

Every year we employ a total of at least ten trainees and will send out the contracts as soon as our offer is accepted.

HOW IS THE TRAINING STRUCTURED?

Essentially, you work at the company and go to the vocational training college one or two days a week – a good mixture of practice and theory. Your placements in our various departments are for six months. Changeover is always in March and September.

And where will I be going? Transport and Logistics Service Clerks do the commercial component of their company placement. They work in, for example, service, scheduling, overnight express delivery, invoicing and insurance. Office Management Clerks support the fundamental business operations. These include sales and assistance, organisation, order management, accounting, human resources, etc. In both areas, we’ll make sure you experience a broad insight and we’ll take your interests into account as far as we are able to.

Warehouse Logistics Specialists and Warehouse Clerks (m/f/x) will switch between our freight handling facility and industry-specific high bay warehouses for contract logistics. The workshop and IT are service departments at Honold: apprentices in those departments will be sent to wherever they are currently needed.

WHAT WILL I EARN DURING MY APPRENTICESHIP?

Honold apprentices receive remuneration in line with the current collective agreement for the freight forwarding industry. From March 1, 2022, we pay trainees EUR 1,000 per month during the first year, EUR 1,064 per month during the second year and EUR 1,131 per month during the third year.

There is also a bonus holiday payment in July and a Christmas bonus in November. You’ll also receive employer contributions to boost your savings or towards your company pension.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF BEING ACCEPTED FOR A PERMANENT POSITION LATER ON?

We regard our trainees as the future of our company! So we take particular care with our application process and invest a lot in it. The result: if we choose each other, then the chances of successfully completing your apprenticeship and starting your career at Honold are very good. And on the way, we’ll both invest our time and ability for maximum effect. That’s our promise to you – and we expect you to do the same for us.

In numbers: for years now, the average retention rate at Honold has been 95 %.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER PROGRESSION WILL I HAVE AFTER THE APPRENTICESHIP IS FINISHED?

With us, all options are open once you’ve completed your training. You can carry on acquiring specialist training – for example, clerks can qualify as a Transport Management and Operations professional, a Trade & Commerce professional or a Business Administration professional m/f/x. If you have a higher education entrance qualification (Abitur or equivalent) and want to go to university, we’ll support you to enhance your suitability for a specialist or management role at Honold. Or you can make your way working with us at the company. The career trajectories are highly individual: together, we’ll find the right strategy for you.

Many of those who’ve spent their career at Honold started out on one of our apprenticeships: including our sales manager, the assistant to the management board, the handling facility manager and the manager of our transport department. These are just a few examples.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR THE APPLICATION?

We want to know what interests you about your dream job and why you want to come to Honold in particular! We want to see a personal, honest, straightforward covering letter; we’re not too bothered about the conventional clichés. After all, we want to get to know you – not just anyone. Let someone who knows you well read it through before you send it off – maybe they can give you a few tips. In addition, your application documentation needs to be complete and well-presented. You should include a covering letter, your CV and your last two school reports.

Apply to us if you’re hungry for new knowledge and open to new experiences, if you’re not afraid to make mistakes but to learn from each and every one of them. We appreciate punctuality, reliability and team players who identify with Honold and demonstrate the corresponding level of commitment to our company.

Oh, and don’t forget to check your e-mails regularly during the application process. You wouldn’t want to miss anything!
