Already at the end of 2016, the company Honold LTS Logistik GmbH was established. This is a 50% joint venture founded by the Honold Logistik Group together with LTS Nordwest GmbH from Nordenham – an owner-managed technology company within the A & T group of companies.

Together, the two logistics experts Honold and LTS successfully participated in a tender for the operation of a materials management center for Premium AEROTEC in Augsburg, Bavaria.

Premium AEROTEC is an Airbus subsidiary and, with around 10,000 employees at six locations in Germany and Romania, is one of the world’s leading companies in the development and production of structural components for civil and military aircraft construction. In order to cope with market developments and increasing cadenzas, Premium AEROTEC has decided to outsource the logistics at the Augsburg site to an external logistics service provider.

The task of Honold LTS Logistik GmbH (HLTS) consists in the operation of a materials management center including all corresponding services, such as the goods receipt processing, storage, order management, picking, loading, in-house transport and shipping. The main focus here is the “just in sequence” supply of the Augsburg location with material right up to the station in production. In addition, the dispatch processing and Europe-wide loading of the manufactured products takes place. The project places the highest demands on performance, quality and reliability.

Following successful signing of the contract, HLTS immediately entered into the joint planning phase and project planning with the customer. For this task, a new logistics property with approx. 17,500 sqm in the south of Augsburg was planned together. In addition, approximately 4,500 square meters of logistics hubs will be managed by HLTS on the premises of Premium AEROTEC. In the finish state, HLTS will employ about 160 people in this logistics application.

With regard to the storage technology, the decision was made to use a state-of-the-art and effective automatic small parts warehouse (AKL) with approx. 180,000 crate seats and a throughput of approx. 850 crates per hour. Long goods are stored in a narrow aisle entrance cantilever rack designed for this application over a length of more than 50 km. To control and optimize the logistical activities, a state-of-the-art IT landscape has been developed, i.a. set up with SAP EWM and a separate forklift control system (SyncroTESS).

Currently, the team is in the introductory phase and has already taken over its first responsibilities on its own responsibility. The imminent implementation and ramp-up phase over several months with various moves in addition to the day-to-day business again very high demands on all parties.
